China Has Been Ranked As The World's Second Largest Importer For 10 Consecutive Years
Nanjing University Changjiang Institute of Industrial Economics, Guangzhi Library and Guangming Network jointly hosted the "2019 China Import Development Report" conference and "2019 China Import Development Forum" in Beijing. The "Report" published pointed out that since the founding of New China 70 years ago, China's imports have developed very rapidly. In 1950, China’s total imports were only 583 million US dollars. In 1978, China’s total imports exceeded 10 billion US dollars, reaching 10.893 billion US dollars, 18.68 times that of 1950. In 2018, it was about 9 times that of 2001, about 136 times that of 1979, about 3663 times that of 1950. In the 70 years since the founding of the People's Republic of China, China has been ranked as the second largest importer of goods in the world for 10 consecutive years. The "Report" proposes that the scale of imports of various types of products in China will gradually expand from the scale of imports from Europe and the United States. The status of Chinese imports in European and American exports continues to increase, and the number of European and American products with comparative advantages in the Chinese market has increased. This is not only conducive to promoting China's domestic economic development, enterprise development, and improving the level of domestic consumer welfare, but also conducive to the development of the world economy.
